Meshy to VRM converter: the rigged export
Drop the rigged FBX that Meshy's Auto Rigging writes and get a VRM for VTubing apps. The plain model download has no skeleton and is refused with a note; the page says which file to use. Free, no account.
Rig it in Meshy first
Meshy's plain model download is a mesh without bones, and a VRM needs bones. Open the model in Meshy, choose Auto Rigging, pick Humanoid and press Rig, then download the rigged character as FBX; Meshy names it with _biped or Character_output. That file converts. The plain download, named _texture_fbx or image-to-3d, is refused as NO_ARMATURE with the rig steps shown.
What a Meshy rig has, and what it does not
The rigged export carries a full humanoid skeleton with fingers, and converts with every required bone mapped. It carries no facial blend shapes, so the VRM will not blink or lip-sync; the body tracks, the face does not. Materials arrive as the model's own glTF materials rather than toon shading, so under a single light the unlit side looks darker than in Meshy's viewer.
Meshy bone names the converter maps
Meshy numbers its torso from the neck down, with Spine02 on the hips and Spine under the neck, so the segments are mapped by their place in the chain, not by the number in the name. Left side shown; the right side is the same.
| Meshy bone | VRM humanoid bone |
|---|---|
Hips | hips |
Spine02 | spine |
Spine01 | chest |
Spine | upperChest |
neck | neck |
Head | head |
LeftShoulder | leftShoulder |
LeftArm | leftUpperArm |
LeftForeArm | leftLowerArm |
LeftHand | leftHand |
LeftUpLeg | leftUpperLeg |
LeftLeg | leftLowerLeg |
LeftFoot | leftFoot |
LeftToeBase | leftToes |
head_end / LeftHand_End | End markers rather than joints: kept in the file, driving nothing. |
Twenty-two humanoid bones are mapped on a rigged Meshy export, with the shoulders, the toes and the finger chains, and nothing required missing. The result panel shows the model in 3D before you download it.
What can go wrong with a Meshy file
A conversion that cannot finish tells you which of these it hit.
NO_ARMATURE
The file is Meshy's plain model download, which has no skeleton.
Rig it in Meshy (Auto Rigging › Humanoid › Rig) and download the rigged FBX.
UNRECOGNIZED_RIG
The skeleton's names match no convention: a rig made outside Meshy and renamed.
Use Meshy's own rigged export, or name the bones after Mixamo or Unity conventions.
FILE_TRUNCATED
The download stopped early and the file is incomplete.
Download the export again from Meshy and drop the fresh file.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a Meshy model to VRM?
Rig it in Meshy with Auto Rigging set to Humanoid, download the rigged character as FBX, drop it here, preview and download the .vrm.
NO_ARMATURE on a Meshy file: what it means
Because it is the plain model download, which has no bones. Rig it in Meshy first; the refusal shows the steps.
Will the VRM blink and lip-sync?
No. Meshy rigs carry no facial shapes, so the face stays still; the body tracks. Shapes added in Blender before converting become expressions.
FBX or GLB from Meshy?
Either converts; the rigged FBX is the one Auto Rigging writes, so it is the simpler choice.
Does a four-legged Meshy creature convert?
No. A VRM is a humanoid; a quadruped has no hips-spine-head-arms-legs chain to map.
