Unity package to VRM converter: no Unity needed
Drop a .unitypackage. The package is unpacked on our server, the model inside is found, the textures each material points at are read from the package, and the rigged model converts to VRM like any FBX.
What comes across, and what cannot
Comes across
- · The FBX or GLB inside the package, with its skeleton and skin weights
- · Textures, read from the materials the package carries
- · Shape keys as expressions
Does not
- · Unity components: physics, constraints, scripts, VRChat descriptors
- · Shaders: a Unity shader becomes the VRM material model, so toon looks are approximate
- · Models whose mesh exists only as a Unity prefab, with no model file inside
How to convert a Unity package to VRM
- Drop the .unitypackage, or a zip that contains one. Up to 100 MB.
- The package is unpacked on the server; when it holds several models, the page asks which one. The chosen model converts with the textures its materials name.
- Preview the VRM in 3D, download it. The package and the result are deleted 3 days later.
What a .unitypackage is
A tar archive of a Unity project's assets, each with its project path: the FBX, the textures, the .mat files that bind them, and often much more. The converter reads the archive directly, follows the materials to their textures, and hands the model to the same pipeline the FBX to VRM converter runs. Unity never starts.
Where it stops
A package whose avatar is a prefab built from parts, with no single model file, cannot be converted here; Unity is needed to export that as FBX. An avatar whose licence forbids conversion stays yours to respect: many Booth sellers forbid VRM export, and the page cannot know.
Questions
Do I need Unity installed?
No. The package is read on our server.
Will the textures come through?
Yes, where the materials in the package point at them, which is the normal case.
The package holds several models.
The page lists them; pick the one you meant and nothing is uploaded twice.
An avatar bought on Booth: allowed?
Technically, when it contains a model file. Read its terms first; many forbid conversion to VRM.
My .unitypackage is inside a .zip.
Drop the zip; the package is found inside it.
What about VRM to VRChat?
Not here. A VRM goes into VRChat through Unity and the VRChat SDK.
Only want the files out?
The Unitypackage extractor lists every asset by its project path and saves them, in your browser, without converting anything.
